Since the first World Championships in the 1970s, the World Karate Federation (WKF) has been the official Karate Association for the entire Karate world. The organization, led now by President Antonio Espinós, represents millions of karateka from almost every country on earth. The WKF accepts every Style of Karate and allows all participants to participate in world and continental championships. It also hosts the K1 Premier League, which includes 5 top-class tournaments all over the world, one of them in Germany in September. Since 2016 the WKF is a recognized member since 1997 and Karate is now part of the Olympic Games program in 2020 in Tokyo. With the World Karate Day the WKF wants to promote the further participation in the Olympic Games from 2024 onwards.

dkvDKV e.V.

The Deutscher Karate Verband e.V. (German Karate Association) is the official national association for Karate in Germany. It is a member of the DOSB (member of the IOC) and the World Karate Federation. The DKV is sponsored by the Federal Ministry of the Interior as an Olympic association. It represents more than 120,000 Karateka in more than 2,300 clubs all over Germany. The DKV is not tied to a karate style and offers many options for the members, including competitions, seminars, Karate for elderly, women and children, sound karate and self-defense. Karate is recognized as health-related sports worldwide. In addition, the DKV is a world leader in the implementation and optimization of ParaKarate.
The DKV is the host of the German Championships of the Seniors, the Masterclass, various junior classes and the ParaKarate for people with disabilities. It is also host of one of the five K1 Premier League tournaments of the WKF. The DKV was hosting the World Championships of the WKF 2000 in Munich and 2014 in Bremen.
